Department of Homeland Security Missions
Assignment Objective: Demonstrate knowledge of emergency management policies and programs in the United States.
This assignment should take about 3 hours to complete.
In 250 words, review the core missions of DHS and describe an application from your experience and/or knowledge that illustrates a core mission. List the five core missions identified by DHS (Bullock, Haddow & Coppola, 2013, p. 10). Select one core mission and its goals and describe from your knowledge or experience how that incident and your actions and/or response (or that of your unit) exemplifies that core mission. Ensure the following three topics are addressed:
1. Clear description of the core mission and goal you have selected to discuss.
2. Describe the experience (incident) you have selected and applied for that goal in sufficient detail that clearly illustrates the mission as presented by Bullock, Haddow & Coppola.
3. Provide an analysis of your actions and/or response and the phase of emergency management that best describes your role. Discuss why.
Document the references you use in preparation of the 250 word essay in APA Styles format.
