Assignment
Problem Statement
Food packaging plays a primary role in keeping the U.S. food supply among the safest in the world. Packaging maintains the benefits of food processing after the process is complete, enabling foods to travel safely for long distances from their point of origin and still be wholesome at the time of consumption (Marsh & Bugusu, 2007). According to (Gemechu, Sonnemann, and Young 2017), metals such as copper, aluminum, and steel portray high-level environmental risks associated with product packaging, not to mention the use of plastic bags and container. Let us not forget that packaging accounts for ~40% of all plastics produced since the 1950s (Joe Yates, 2019).
Background
This paper will identify the problems consumers and manufactures face, when deciding what packaging method to use. It will also focus on the relevance of packaging and why; the product contamination due and what the global supply chain can do to relieve this. Packaging prevents damage to the product being transported and casing for items we consume. Putting your money where your mouth is, is not just a random phrase. However, a term now used by millennials as they seek better methods for the packaging of consumable items. these packaging should be free from any form of contamination and the elimination of toxic chemicals. Packaging can impact logistical efficiency; poor design can negatively impact the sale and marketability of the product, material handling, and product safety. How a product is marketed has a lot to do with its brand and how the company decides to package the product, some companies go the extra mile with their marketing strategy to inform consumers of the materials used in the packaging. Specialized material-handling systems dictate the design of packaging to enable automation. In case the packaging design does not correspond to the material handling systems, the supply chain could be disrupted, causing delays and losses (Pålsson & Hellström, 2016). In the past, there has been a loss of up to 2.45% drop in the GDPs of significant manufacturing countries, especially China and the U.S., as a result of logistical inefficiency where the packaging of manufacture products is concerned (Svobodova et al. 2019).
Research Questions:

2.What is the importance and purpose of product packaging?
3.What is the likelihood of product contamination during the packaging?
